Help a Reporter Out (HARO) connects journalists with expert sources, helping reporters find the firsthand insights they need and helping sources get media coverage and backlinks.
HARO is back, connecting journalists with sources and sending free daily media‑opportunity emails three times a day, Monday through Friday.
If you want to pitch journalists and get media coverage, you can sign up for free daily media queries; if you are a journalist, you can submit a query to connect with sources.
How HARO Works for Sources
Register to join the 800,000+ HARO users already using the service to connect with journalists; registering is simple and only takes a minute.
Monitor Source Requests by checking your inbox three times a day (5:35 a.m., 12:35 p.m., and 5:35 p.m. ET), Monday through Friday, and look for source requests relevant to your industry, expertise, or personal experience.
Send the Perfect Pitch by replying to the masked email address listed in the source request, including answers to the journalist’s questions, any specified requirements, and a bio with you or your client’s contact information; if the journalist is interested, they’ll reach out.
HARO works on mutual trust, support, and a few simple rules, so you should understand the guidelines for sources before you send your first pitch.
Journalists and Queries
Journals can submit a query to connect with sources, describing their story, outlet, and deadline, and HARO will share that request with thousands of sources who may be able to help.
HARO gives journalists a simple way to find subject‑matter experts, increasing the authority and credibility of their stories while saving time they would otherwise spend hunting for sources.
Each query includes a summary, detailed question text, media outlet name and URL, category, deadline, and contact information (kept private except in masked form), and journalists can mark urgent requests so they are shared on HARO’s X account to reach even more sources.
Free, Daily Media Opportunities
HARO remains free for both journalists and sources, supported by relevant newsletter sponsors, and users can sign up on the Help a Reporter Out homepage at www.helpareporter.com to start receiving free daily media queries.
If you want more ways to get featured in the press, HARO also promotes visiting Featured.com, which carries the HARO legacy forward and offers additional tools to help sources and journalists connect.
