Introduction
In this lesson, we’ll learn what SEO is in a non-traditional way.
Instead of using textbook definitions, I’ll explain the concept so you can form your own understanding.
Here is the lesson video:
The Shopping Mall Analogy
Imagine a shopping mall with 100 floors.
Each floor has 10 shops.
Every shop sells dresses or offers dress-related services.
Now, this mall has no elevator or lift.
When someone enters the mall looking for dresses, they start from the ground floor.
They visit shops one by one until they find what they need.
Once their needs are met, they leave the mall.
The Business Challenge
Let’s say you have a dress shop on the 50th or 100th floor.
Even if you offer better quality or better deals, customers might never reach your shop.
They’ll likely make their purchase before reaching your floor.
This means you’re missing out on potential sales.
How SEO Helps
This is where SEO comes in.
SEO helps bring your shop from the higher floors down to the ground floor.
It aims to make your shop the first one customers see when they enter the mall.
Real-World SEO
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving or optimizing our website.
It works for various search engines:
- Bing
- AI search engines like ChatGPT
- Social media search engines like Facebook and Instagram
A Practical Example
Let’s say I’m an SEO expert in Coimbatore.
When someone searches “SEO expert in Coimbatore” or “SEO service in Coimbatore,” I want my website to appear at the top.
Without SEO, my website might be buried on page 2 or page 100.
Most people don’t look beyond the first page, or even the first three results.
The Goal of SEO
Through proper SEO implementation, we can bring a low-ranking website to top positions.
When your website ranks at the top organically:
- More customers will find your website
- You have better chances of converting visitors into customers
Conclusion
