The service
Every directory submission service in this category competes on the same claim: that it submits to more sites than the others. That number is unverifiable, trivially inflated, and worth nothing if half the destinations are abandoned link farms.
I compete on the database instead. It is published in full, carries live Domain Rating for every entry, records what each platform actually is, and gets re-checked monthly so dead venues leave rather than pad a total.
What you get
Process
Five steps. You provide the product details, approve the platform list, and receive the evidence. I handle the 40–70 hours of form-filling in between.
Product name, URL, one-line pitch, logo and categories. That is the whole setup.
The database is filtered to the platforms that genuinely fit your category. You get the proposed list with the Domain Rating and platform type for each one.
Cut anything you do not want to appear on. Nothing is submitted until you sign off.
Every submission is completed manually, in the format each platform expects, at a pace that does not trigger bot detection.
An itemised report: platform, URL, type, Domain Rating, submission date and current status. Pending and rejected are marked, not hidden.
From the database
These are not all directories, and they are not treated as such. Review marketplaces, launch platforms, communities, company databases, AI tool indexes and software indexes each have different submission formats, review processes and link behaviours.
Buyer-intent listings ordered by verified reviews. Slowest to set up, closest to a purchase decision.
G2 (DR 91) · Capterra (DR 91) · GetApp (DR 85) · TrustRadius (DR 84)
Time-boxed events with a leaderboard. A launch is a day, not a page.
Product Hunt (DR 91) · Fazier (DR 82) · Beta List (DR 76) · Uneed Best (DR 75)
Posts and profiles, not form submissions. Account standing matters more than the listing.
Reddit (DR 95) · Hacker News (DR 91) · Indie Hackers (DR 81) · Dev.to (DR 91)
Records about the company rather than the product, built on funding, team and traction data.
Crunchbase (DR 91) · Wellfound (DR 87) · F6S (DR 83)
Task-based catalogues of AI products. The fastest-moving category, and the one with the most low-quality entrants.
There's An AI For That (DR 77) · Futurepedia (DR 72) · Toolify.ai (DR 72)
Alternatives and comparison pages that rank against competitor brand names.

Fit
No marketing budget or growth team. This is the highest-leverage discovery channel available — set-and-forget visibility while you keep shipping.
Get your product in front of the audiences that evaluate and recommend tools, and earn the backlinks that move you up Google for your category.
Submit to 100+ directories built specifically for AI products, where buyers and AI assistants both go looking for what to recommend.
Running link building for any website, not just a startup. Many platforms in the database — G2, Capterra, Reddit, Medium — carry real authority for general business listings.
Honesty
Stating what the service does not do is not a disclaimer buried at the bottom. It is a position: if a claim cannot be kept, it should not be made.
Each venue makes its own editorial decision. You get the submission and the evidence, not a guaranteed listing.
Listings build authority and referral paths. What that translates to depends on your product and your pages.
337 of 348 platforms publish a followed link. The rest are nofollowed, and I tell you which before submitting.
Directories get sold, redesigned or abandoned. The database is re-checked monthly, but no one keeps a third-party page alive forever.
Why it works
Before SEO can work and before word of mouth can spread, someone has to see your product. For a bootstrapped founder with no ad budget, directories are the most efficient discovery channel there is: communities of people actively looking for new tools.
Each listing does three things at once. It creates a backlink from a trusted, often high-DR domain — the kind of link that builds the authority Google needs before it ranks your pages. It puts you in front of an audience of founders, makers and early adopters who browse these platforms specifically to find new tools. And it helps AI assistants and search engines understand what your product is and who it is for, making you easier to surface and recommend.
Unlike an ad that stops when you stop paying, a directory listing keeps working. The backlink stays live, the referral traffic keeps trickling in, and AI assistants increasingly pull from these structured listings when they answer "what is the best tool for X?" That compounding is what makes this a strong early investment — one effort, months of return.
Need more than directories?
Directory submission builds the backlink foundation. If your product needs the full search programme — commercial page architecture, product-led content, AI visibility and reporting tied to signups — there is a dedicated consulting engagement for that.
