What SE Ranking is

SE Ranking covers the whole suite job, keyword research, competitor analysis, daily rank tracking, website and on-page audit, backlink research, and prices it by projects and tracked keywords rather than by seats. Unlimited keyword, competitor and backlink research is included on both published tiers, which is unusual: most suites meter research and sell you more of it.

Its clearest current differentiator is that AI-answer prompts are tracked in the same allowance as keywords. The Core plan tracks 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts daily; Growth tracks 5,000 and 250. Treating both as one measurement surface is closer to how visibility actually works now than bolting an AI module on as an upgrade.

It is built for people managing several sites. Ten projects and one seat on Core, thirty projects and three seats on Growth, with an Agency Pack, an AI Search toolkit and API access available on top. For a single site it is more platform than you need, and priced accordingly.

SE Ranking in context

SE Ranking is the platform that agencies discover when they outgrow a budget tool and baulk at Semrush’s price. Core at $129 a month ($103.20 annually) includes unlimited keyword and competitor research, which is the feature that changes the economics for anyone running multiple client projects. On Semrush, a heavy research day hits credit limits; on SE Ranking, it does not.

The AI visibility tracking is handled differently here than in most competitors. Rather than a separate add-on or a distinct product line, AI prompts come out of the same keyword allowance — 100 prompts daily on Core, 250 on Growth. That is a clean design decision: one pool of tracking budget, allocated however the user wants. It is enough to monitor a core set of prompts for a single brand, and it is well short of what a dedicated AI-visibility tool would offer.

Site audit allowances are another quiet advantage. Where Semrush’s entry tier caps auditable pages in the low thousands, SE Ranking’s allowances are substantially larger on both tiers. For an agency running monthly audits across a client portfolio, that difference compounds into real savings — or, more precisely, into audits that actually run to completion rather than being truncated.

The gap is advertising data. SE Ranking does not have the paid-search intelligence that Semrush built its reputation on. If the question is “what is this competitor bidding on and what does their ad copy look like,” Semrush answers it and SE Ranking does not. For organic-only SEO work, that gap is irrelevant. For anyone whose strategy includes paid search, it is disqualifying.

What you can use it for

  • Run daily rank tracking and AI-prompt tracking from one allowance
  • Manage ten to thirty client projects from a single subscription
  • Audit sites at scale, 250,000 to two million pages a month
  • Do unlimited keyword, competitor and backlink research without metering

The features that matter for SEO

Each one says what it does and the SEO job it serves. A vendor feature list without that second half tells you nothing you could not read on their own site.

Keyword and AI prompt tracking together

Tracks conventional keyword positions and AI-answer prompts daily from one plan allowance.

One measurement surface for both, rather than a rank tracker plus a separate AI-visibility subscription. Closer to how visibility now works.

100 prompts on Core, 250 on Growth. A dedicated AI-visibility tool tracks more and across more engines.

Unlimited research

Places no cap on keyword, competitor or backlink research volume on either published tier.

Removes the constraint that defines a heavy research week on most suites. You pay for tracking and projects, not for looking things up.

Website and on-page audit at scale

Crawls 250,000 pages a month on Core, two million on Growth.

Genuinely large allowances. Most suites at this price cap audits an order of magnitude lower.

Project-based structure

Organises everything around projects, with ten on Core and thirty on Growth.

The right shape for agency work, where the unit of work is a client rather than a keyword list.

Reporting integrations

Connects Looker Studio, Matomo, Google Analytics and Search Console.

Matomo support is unusual and matters for anyone avoiding Google Analytics on privacy grounds.

Historical data across project lifetime

Retains the full history of a project rather than a rolling window.

The difference between reporting a quarter and defending a two-year programme.

Growth tier and above.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths

  • Unlimited keyword, competitor and backlink research on both published tiers
  • AI prompts tracked in the same allowance as keywords, not sold as an upgrade
  • Very large audit allowances for the price
  • Project-based structure and seats suited to multi-client work
  • Matomo integration alongside the Google stack

Limitations

  • Priced for portfolios, considerably more than you need for one site
  • One manager seat on Core, so a second person means the $279 tier
  • Agency Pack, AI Search and API are separate purchases whose prices are not on the main pricing page
  • Prompt allowances are small next to a dedicated AI-visibility tool
  • No free tier, only a 14-day trial

Who it is for, and who should skip it

Worth it if

  • You manage ten to thirty client projects and want one subscription
  • Research volume, not tracking volume, is what you keep hitting elsewhere
  • You want AI-prompt tracking without a second subscription

Skip it if

  • You run one site, the entry tier is priced for ten
  • Your team needs several seats on the cheaper plan
  • AI visibility is the main purchase rather than a bonus

Alternatives to SE Ranking

Each one answers when it is the better choice, which is the only thing a list of competitors is useful for.

  • Semrush Choose it when you need advertising data and the widest toolset, and can absorb per-seat pricing.
  • Ahrefs Choose it when the link index is the reason for buying.
  • Morningscore Choose it when you want a prioritised task list for a small business rather than a project-based agency platform.
  • AccuRanker Choose it when rank tracking accuracy and speed is the only job, and you want a specialist.

Questions

How much does SE Ranking cost?

Core is $129 a month, or $103.20 billed annually; Growth is $279 a month, or $223.20 annually, a 20% annual saving, with free migration included. Enterprise is quote-only. Verified on 19 August 2026.

Does SE Ranking track AI search visibility?

Yes, and unusually it comes out of the same allowance as keywords rather than a separate module, 100 prompts daily on Core and 250 on Growth. That is enough to monitor a core prompt set, and well short of a dedicated AI-visibility tool's coverage.

Is SE Ranking good value against Semrush?

For agency work, often yes: unlimited research on both tiers and much larger audit allowances, at a lower entry price. What Semrush has that it does not is advertising and paid-search data, which is the clearest commercial-intent signal in either product.
