KNWN review
Prompt tracking for AI answers, with the prompts it runs shown to you.
What KNWN is
KNWN tracks how AI models describe and cite a brand. You give it prompts, it runs them daily across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, and it reports whether you were named, how you were framed, and which sources influenced the answer. It also pulls AI referrer traffic into one dashboard, which otherwise means building custom GA4 reports.
Its most useful design decision is transparency: it shows you the exact prompts it ran. Most tools in this category hand back a visibility score and leave you unable to check what produced it, and a number you cannot audit is not a measurement. There is also an onboarding wizard that forces you to describe your brand and products precisely — every data point downstream depends on it, so rushing that step produces unusable output.
It is early-stage, and that shows in two places. Citation analysis reports a brand-mention percentage without the query, position or competitor context that would make it actionable. And competitor tracking, the feature most buyers of this category assume is present, is on the roadmap rather than in the product.
What you can use it for
- Track daily whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini cite your brand for your target prompts
- See the exact prompts a visibility score was calculated from
- Pull AI referrer traffic into one dashboard instead of building GA4 reports for it
- Run AI-visibility reporting under your own brand for clients, via the white-label option
The features that matter for SEO
Each one says what it does and the SEO job it serves. A vendor feature list without that second half tells you nothing you could not read on their own site.
Custom prompt tracking
Runs prompts you define daily across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, and records brand mentions, framing and citation type.
Rank tracking for AI answers. This is the reason to buy it, and the only feature in the product that produces data you could not gather by hand at any reasonable scale.
Visible prompt methodology
Shows the exact prompts it ran to produce each score.
Makes the number auditable. A share-of-voice figure you cannot trace to a sentence is not something you can act on or defend in a report.
AI referrer analytics
Centralises traffic arriving from ChatGPT, Gemini and other assistants.
Answers whether AI visibility is producing sessions, without building custom GA4 explorations for each assistant.
Audience score
Scores how closely AI models' understanding of your site matches your own description of it.
A fast read on whether your positioning is landing. If models describe you as something you are not, that is an entity problem with a concrete fix.
Citation analysis
Reports the percentage of tracked answers that mention your brand.
Tells you the direction of travel.
Thin. No query detail, no position, no competitor context — and in testing it sometimes attributed a competitor's brand to the user's own.
White-label for agencies
Runs the dashboard under your own logo and domain for client reporting.
Lets an agency resell AI-visibility reporting without exposing the underlying tool.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Daily prompt tracking across four named models, which is the core job done properly
- Shows the prompts behind every score, so the data is auditable
- AI referrer traffic in one place rather than assembled from GA4
- The setup wizard forces the positioning clarity the rest of the data depends on
Limitations
- Citation analysis gives a mention percentage with no query, position or competitor context
- Competitor tracking is on the roadmap, not in the product — the most significant gap
- Trends surfaced shallow or irrelevant queries for micro-niche sites in testing
- Occasionally misidentified a competitor's brand as the user's own in citation data
- Visibility-gap recommendations were often generic and missed the site's actual niche
- Most of what it does can be replicated by hand with GA4 and direct prompting, so what you are buying is convenience rather than exclusive data
Who it is for, and who should skip it
Worth it if
- You want one dashboard for AI visibility instead of GA4 plus manual prompt testing plus a spreadsheet
- You are running GEO work and need to see whether content investment is moving citations
- You can describe your brand and products precisely at setup
Skip it if
- You need competitor intelligence now
- Your niche is small enough that AI search volume is genuinely low
- You want citation data detailed enough to write a brief from
Alternatives to KNWN
Each one answers when it is the better choice, which is the only thing a list of competitors is useful for.
- Otterly.ai Choose it when you want a lower entry price and page-level GEO audits alongside the tracking.
- Peec AI Choose it when competitor share of voice is the point — it reports against a named competitor set, which KNWN does not yet.
- Profound Choose it when you need prompt-demand research and CDN-level crawler analytics on an enterprise budget.

Which AI models does KNWN track?
ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini, with prompts run daily. Plans are priced by prompt count — 10, 25 or 50 — rather than by model.
Does KNWN track competitors?
Not yet. Competitor tracking is on the roadmap rather than in the product, and it is the most significant gap for anyone buying an AI-visibility tool to answer "who is being cited instead of us".
How much does KNWN cost?
$49 a month for 10 tracked prompts, $99 for 25 and $199 for 50, verified on the vendor's pricing page on 19 August 2026. A free scan is available without a credit card.
