Rank Tracking
Nightwatch: what it does, what it costs
Priced on keywords tracked, never on team size — unlimited seats on every plan.
What Nightwatch is
Nightwatch is a rank tracker that has made one commercial decision and built its positioning on it: you pay for keywords tracked and never for seats. Every plan includes unlimited users, so adding a colleague, a client or an entire agency costs nothing. In a category where per-seat pricing is the norm, that is the reason it appears on shortlists.
Around the tracker sit the things a tracker now needs: Citation Intelligence for AI-answer citations, prompt research for deciding what to track on those surfaces, a site audit, keyword research, Looker Studio reporting and a search simulator for seeing results as a user in another location would.
It also ships an MCP server, which is unusual and genuinely useful — it means an assistant can query your own ranking data directly rather than you exporting it first. Prices are in euros, and the trial is fourteen days with no credit card.
What you can use it for
- Track rankings and give the whole team access without paying per seat
- Track AI-answer citations alongside conventional positions
- See results as a searcher in another city or country would
- Query your own ranking data from an assistant through the MCP server
The features that matter for SEO
Each one says what it does and the SEO job it serves. A vendor feature list without that second half tells you nothing you could not read on their own site.
Unlimited user seats on every plan
Places no seat limit on any tier, including the entry plan.
The commercial differentiator. An agency can put clients and staff in the tool without the seat maths that dominates every competitor's pricing conversation.
Rank tracking by location and device
Tracks keyword positions with location and device granularity.
The core job. Keyword allowance is what you buy — 500 on Starter, 2,500 on Professional.
Citation Intelligence
Tracks where and how the brand is cited in AI-generated answers.
AI citation tracking inside the rank tracker rather than as a separate subscription, which is the sensible shape while the two surfaces converge.
Prompt research
Suggests the prompts worth tracking on AI surfaces.
Solves the first problem with every AI-visibility tool — knowing which prompts to track before you start paying per prompt.
Search simulator
Renders search results as a user in a chosen location and configuration would see them.
Settles arguments about what a client "sees" without a VPN, and shows how much of the page the organic results actually occupy.
MCP server
Exposes your ranking data over MCP for use from an assistant.
Genuinely rare. It means asking questions of your own rank data conversationally instead of exporting to a spreadsheet first.
Looker Studio integration
Feeds tracking data into Looker Studio.
Puts rankings alongside analytics in a report a client already receives.
Site audit
Crawls and reports technical issues.
Present rather than the point — 25 pages on both published lower tiers is a spot check, not an audit.

Strengths and limitations
Strengths
- Unlimited user seats on every plan, which no direct competitor matches
- AI citation tracking and prompt research bundled with the tracker
- An MCP server, so an assistant can query your ranking data directly
- Search simulator for verifying what a searcher elsewhere actually sees
- Fourteen-day trial with no credit card
Limitations
- Site audit is capped at 25 pages on both published lower tiers — effectively a spot check
- Priced in euros, so the real cost depends on your currency and VAT position
- The step from Professional to Agency is €159 to €399
- No free tier
- Keyword allowances are modest against dedicated enterprise trackers
Who it is for, and who should skip it
Worth it if
- Agencies and teams where seat costs dominate the tooling budget
- Anyone who wants AI citations tracked alongside rankings in one bill
- Teams who work with assistants and would use an MCP connection
Skip it if
- You need a real site audit rather than a 25-page check
- You track tens of thousands of keywords
- You are one person, where unlimited seats is worth nothing
Alternatives to Nightwatch
Each one answers when it is the better choice, which is the only thing a list of competitors is useful for.
- AccuRanker Choose it when tracking accuracy and scale is the whole purchase and you need segmentation across tens of thousands of keywords.
- SE Ranking Choose it when you want a full suite with unlimited research rather than a tracker with extras.
- Nozzle Choose it when you want to pay for SERPs pulled rather than keywords held, and care about SERP composition.
- Morningscore Choose it when you want daily tracking plus a prioritised task list on a small-business budget.

Questions
Does Nightwatch really include unlimited users?
Yes, on every plan including the €79 entry tier — the vendor states it explicitly and positions the product on it. You pay for keywords tracked, so adding staff or client logins does not change the bill. In this category that is unusual enough to be the deciding factor for many agencies.
How much does Nightwatch cost?
Starter is €79 a month or €948 a year for 500 keywords; Professional €159 or €1,908 for 2,500 keywords; Agency €399 or €4,788. Enterprise is custom. Verified on 19 August 2026, with a 14-day trial and no credit card required.
What is the MCP server for?
It lets an AI assistant query your Nightwatch data directly, so you can ask questions of your own ranking history conversationally instead of exporting a CSV and analysing it separately. Very few SEO tools expose one.
