What SERP Feature Tracking tools do
A position number used to describe an outcome. It stopped doing so once the page above the organic results grew: ranking third can now mean sitting below the fold behind an AI answer, a local pack and a video carousel. These tools capture the composition of the page instead — which features appeared, how much vertical space each took, who else is present — and keep a history of it. That is what explains the case which baffles most reporting, where positions are stable and clicks fall. Nothing in a rank table can account for it; a record of what appeared above you can.
